Also went hiking today, which involved an 820-icy stair climb.  Shit.  But at the top there’s a little restaurant thing, with Coca Cola, chocolate, and shashlik.  So it’s all good.

I am so tired.

Also, look at this fluffy horse tied to a street sign.  This is why I’m so in love with Almaty.

Today I went skating at this place, Medeo - the highest skating rink in the world, or so.

I am not the most graceful person you’ll meet.  In fact, sometimes I just randomly fall out of chairs (that happened earlier this week, but in my defense they were weird chairs).  Ice skating, I remembered today, is not necessarily my sport.  I did, however, make it through the hour or two of skating without falling once

I think, though, that I’ve gotten my quota of ice skating in for the next couple of years or so.

On the way home tonight I saw this lovely little stand just opposite the door.

This, after witnessing a stampede of streetside sellers earlier near the same spot.  It makes me wonder how sheep heads lady would fare, should the police return for a second round.  It would be a mess.

This is my favorite.

Having a gorgeous ginger americano at Coffeedelia in Almaty, Kazakhstan.  I love this place.  Look at these chairs.  I feel like a little kid, even though I’m currently polishing up my CV.

Off to Green Bazaar this afternoon, and hopefully to see a man about an opera, at the National Opera and Ballet Theater.  Man, how I’ve missed good opera (Detroit has a fantastic opera house, so I was spoiled, Astana’s is… not so nice).
Hope everyone is enjoying their day as much as I am!

The view from our balcony at the Turkestan Hotel. We’re at the foot of the Tian Shen mountains, and right across from the Зеленый базар, Green Bazaar.
