accidentalporcupine: So I emailed my resume to a couple of libraries hiring in my area about a week ago. I fit the minimum qualifications, I think my resume is decent, etc, etc. I haven’t heard back from anyone yet, should I follow up? How do you follow up? Is it rude? Because if I were an employer I’d be like “well… Have you sent off your resume to anyone for a review?  I’d...

IMAGES: What Happens If You Flip The Gender Of... →
Yesterday, author Maureen Johnson had a great idea. She tweeted “I do wish I had a dime for every email I get that says, “Please put a non-girly cover on your book so I can read it…” These images are so interesting and illuminating about how we gender books.  It makes me realize my own bias (I would never, ever pick up Freedom if it had the girly cover).

Le ciel tumultueux: Get To Know Your Tumblarians... →
lecieltumultueux: Going through some old school papers, I found some pretty great career aspirations of mine. Some careers I had in mind? Interior designer, florist, marine biologist (only if I could work at the Shedd Aquarium though), famous singer, gymnast (for a hot second), French teacher, magician. The florist… Mine changed yearly up through high school, but it was generally things...

Darien Library: Tumblarians and Tumblibraries, →
healthscireflib: I’m doing a bit of research for a presentation on branding on a budget in innovative ways, and I’ve seen some of you mention some really great promotional/branding ideas. Anything that you’re really proud of that you’d like others in the library community to know about? I’d… Great suggestions for marketing!  While most of the ideas are more public or special libraries,...

What's Your Walk Score? →
Calculate the walkability of any address, neighborhood or city and search for apartments and rentals by commute time, near transit, near car shares, and more! My mom just sent me this link, because I’m moving (not sure where yet, though there are a few options).  I’m also obsessed with never owning a car again.  Ever. It’s really interesting, how they quantify things into...

Excitedly starting to write up the findings of our first-ever usability study of the NU library portal.  Graphs! Charts!  It’s gonna be awesome. Also considering registration for the pre-conference workshop, Introduction to Python.  Co-taught by Andromeda Yelton, the Unglue.it librarian!  Holy hell!  I am starstruck. What a good, nerdy day of things.

lecieltumultueux: This weekend my mom pulled out a stack of children’s books for me to flip through for fun, and indeed it was! We all have our favorite series, chapter books, picture books.
