So I emailed my resume to a couple of libraries hiring in my area about a week ago. I fit the minimum qualifications, I think my resume is decent, etc, etc. I haven’t heard back from anyone yet, should I follow up? How do you follow up? Is it rude? Because if I were an employer I’d be like “well…
Have you sent off your resume to anyone for a review? I’d...

IMAGES: What Happens If You Flip The Gender Of... →
Yesterday, author Maureen Johnson had a great idea. She tweeted “I do wish I had a dime for every email I get that says, “Please put a non-girly cover on your book so I can read it…”
These images are so interesting and illuminating about how we gender books. It makes me realize my own bias (I would never, ever pick up Freedom if it had the girly cover).
Shew, this global librarian is once again domestic, and it is so, so nice. Holed up in Atlanta for another day, before I head up to Memphis.

UGH, I must now go on hiatus from Tumblr for the rest of the day, until I can watch New Girl. The perils of living abroad.
Excitedly starting to write up the findings of our first-ever usability study of the NU library portal. Graphs! Charts! It’s gonna be awesome.
Also considering registration for the pre-conference workshop, Introduction to Python. Co-taught by Andromeda Yelton, the Unglue.it librarian! Holy hell! I am starstruck.
What a good, nerdy day of things.

Dear Tumblarians,
I’m currently 2.25 years into my first librarian job, right out of library school. There’s a position open in a neighboring system that’s closer to home and more money. Some changes have happened at my current job to make me less satisfied than when I started. I think I’ll apply but I’m nervous that things will get weird at my current job if they find out (i.e., as...
